ARLINGTON, Texas – In their second meeting against the Lamar Cardinals, the New Orleans Privateers were defeated by the score of 3-1 on Saturday morning at the College Park Center on the campus of UT-Arlington.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers were all over the court defensively, posting 51 digs over the first two sets. After Lamar used a four-point stretch to extend their lead to 16-11 in the opening set, they were able to hold off the Privateers' challenge.
New Orleans turned the tide in the second set however behind a strong start. The Privateers jumped out to a 12-4 lead behind three
Kristi Gomez kills and a strong service rotation by
Molly Kehoe. From there, Lamar narrowed the gap to as little as one point at 14-13 but the Privateers never lost the lead for the remainder of the set.
The final two sets saw the Cardinals gain early separation in each and higher attack percentages. Lamar hit .269 in the third set and vaulted up to a .457 attack percentage in the fourth set to seal their second win in four meetings against New Orleans.
Kaitlyn Gil (14), Paige Dugan (13) and Wiktoria Warpechowska (13) all landed in double figures in kills for the Cardinals. Lamar also had five in double digits in digs led by Gil's 16.
INSIDE THE BOX
Gomez led the offense for the Privateers with 12 kills and chipped in six digs defensively.
Molly Kehoe had eight kills and
Mauri Carver contributed seven kills. Carver was also in on three blocks along with Kaitlyn Scroggins.
Rita Zecchin finished the match with 25 digs.
