Privateers Defeated in Conference Opener by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers entered a loud environment and were ultimately handed a defeat in the Southland opener by a 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, 25-10) score by the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders on Thursday at Dugan Wellness Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In all three sets, the Islanders wasted no time jumping out to big early leads. The two-time defending Southland champions were out to leads of 8-3 in the first set and 14-4 over the last two sets. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi never trailed at any point and was only tied on the scoreboard once early in the second set.

The home side hit .325 and they led 20-10 in the opening set. However, New Orleans battled back to within half that deficit after an 8-3 run that saw three different Privateers register kills. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi had kills from Halle Gibson and McKenna Reiswig to finish out the opening set.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi saved their most efficient set for last as they hit .419. The Islanders had 15 kills to just two errors in 31 attempts.

It marked the first time New Orleans lost a Southland opener since 2016.
