SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers volleyball team made a big late push in the third set, rallying from a seven-point deficit but ultimately fell 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-22) to the UIW Cardinals on Saturday at the McDermott Center.
The Cardinals got out to a fast start in the first set. They scored on eight straight rallies to break an early 4-4 tie and led 17-6 at one point in the set before they eventually closed it out in their favor to grab a lead in the match.
New Orleans was within range, trailing 16-14 in the second set but that's when the Cardinals hit another critical spurt. They scored on seven of the next nine rallies to grow their lead to 23-16. UIW eventually finished the set four rallies later to take a 2-0 advantage in the match.
In the third, UIW again used a quick start to their advantage. The Cardinals had a 14-7 lead and never relented from that point as they picked up their third league victory. UIW had to fend off a furious rally though as New Orleans erased that early seven-point deficit to tie the set at 15-15.
The Cardinals gained some separation again at 21-17 and from there, they held to the finish. The Cardinals are now 4-1 against New Orleans at home.
