Jordan Johnson Named Southland Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Jordan Johnson has been named the Southland Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the third week of the regular season, as announced Monday by the conference office.

"This is more so a team award for me because of my teammates and coaching staff putting me in the right positions. They have given me the confidence to play at a very high level," said Johnson.

Johnson led the Privateers to their first road win of the season 79-74 against UCA at their Multi Team Event this past weekend with 29 points, four rebounds, three steals, and three assists. The Memphis native made a season-high six three-pointers and was 9-of-10 from the foul line. Averaging 23.5 points this weekend, he put up a team-high 18 points, three assists, three rebounds, and one steal against North Dakota just 24 hours before Sunday's win.

"This is a great honor for Jordan, his teammates, and his family. I know he will give all the credit to his teammates, but he is very deserving of such an honor," said Head Coach Mark Slessinger

Earlier in the week, the senior guard led the Privateers with 23 points, two rebounds and two assists. Johnson has scored 20+ points in all but two games so far.

Johnson was named New Orleans Player of the Game, after putting up a season high 31 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals to lead New Orleans in close 73-70 loss at Loyola Chicago. The game-high 31 points is his third career-game with 30 plus points and came on 11-of-22 shooting from the floor, 6-of-12 shooting from 3-point range and a 3-of-5 effort from the free throw line.

He currently sits at 8th nationally in free throws with 20 on the season and leads the conference in six categories: Field goals (20), free throws, points (70), points per game (23.2), three pointers per game (3.33), and total three pointers made (10).

Johnson also has a pair of milestones on the horizon as the transfer from Denver sits at 161 career three-point makes and 954 career points. Johnson netted 93 three-pointers and 487 points in his debut season as a Privateer.

The last Privateer to win the honor was Troy Green on February 14, 2022.
