NEW ORLEANS, LA - In a dominant home victory over Belhaven on Tuesday, December 5, New Orleans Men's Basketball senior
Jordan Johnson reached a significant milestone, becoming the 25th Privateer to score 1,000 career points. The achievement was commemorated with the presentation of a game ball prior to yesterday's home win over Birmingham-Southern.
Hailing from Memphis, Tenn., Jordan Johnson's journey to 1,000 career points has been nothing short of remarkable. A key player under the guidance of 13th-year Head Coach Mark Slessinger, Johnson is the fourth student-athlete under Slessinger's tenure to achieve the milestone.
Accounting for 327 points at Denver and an impressive 487 points last season as a Privateer, Johnson has been a scoring force for New Orleans. In the current season, through 11 games, he boasts an average of 23.1 points per game, ranking him fourth in the NCAA. Additionally, he's second nationally in total points scored (254).
The senior guard has been on fire this season, delivering outstanding performances with 20 or more points in seven games. Notably, he achieved a season-high of 31 points in a game against Loyola Chicago.
Last year, Johnson was also named the NCAA statistical champion in three-point percentage (48.2%). He became the first student-athlete in program history to become an NCAA Division I statistical champion in any category since New Orleans became a Division I program in 1976.
