NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans men's basketball (5-6) scored 50 points off the bench to cruise to a 91-51 victory over Birmingham-Southern Thursday night at Lakefront Arena. The Privateers grabbed a season-best 53 boards en route to improving to 4-0 this season at home.
New Orleans jumped out to a 13-5 lead within the first five minutes of the game with early buckets from
Jordan Johnson,
D'Ante Bell,
Tyson Jackson, Turk Vincent and James Glisson III. New Orleans forced six turnovers and only allowed eight Panthers points midway through the half as they stretched the lead to 21-8.
Jackson and Johnson combined for 16 points while
Jah Short and Vincent put up four points apiece to help New Orleans lead by as much as 28 in the half and take a 49-24 lead into the break.
Johnson, who had 12 points at the half, led New Orleans with 16 points, five assists, and four rebounds.
New Orleans put forth a balanced scoring effort in the second half with 11 Privateers scoring at least two points behind
Dorian Booker's eight points. The Privateers led by as much as 44.
Turk Vincent earned New Orleans Player of the Game, notching his sixth career double-double with 14 points and a team-high 12 rebounds. The true freshman Booker had a career-high 12 points and added three rebounds.
Jackson contributed 11 points and five boards in his second consecutive game scoring in double-figures.
New Orleans shot 47% (36-76) from the field and 85.7% (12-14) from the charity stripe.

The Privateers will conclude the non-conference portion of the schedule on the road with two games starting with a matchup against Ohio State next Thursday, Dec. 21 at 6 p.m. CT on The Big Ten Network.
