NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers had three in double figures but the Tulane Green Wave used the three-point line throughout the night to defeat the Privateers 90-63 on Tuesday night at Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse.
The Green Wave started with a 12-0 run to open the night. New Orleans spent the rest of the first half trying to catch up and they made strides behind leading scorer,
DeArica Pryor. She accounted for 10 points in the first half as New Orleans cut the deficit down to as little as four when it was 24-20.
However, Tulane's perimeter shooting stretched the lead back out again. Marta Galic was 4-for-4 from downtown and the Green Wave were 7-for-14 as a team from three-point range. Galic hit a triple to beat the halftime buzzer and cap off a 14-4 run by Tulane in the last 3:55. The Green Wave led 38-24 heading into the locker room.
Tulane stayed hot in the second half as they hit 10-of-15 shots in the third quarter while they outpaced the Privateers 27-16.
The Privateers ended the night on a strong note offensively as they shot nearly 53 percent from the field in the fourth quarter while scoring 23 points. They also had 38 points from the bench but Tulane finished 14-for-29 from long range.
New Orleans forced 19 Tulane turnovers which was tied for the most miscues by the Green Wave in a game this season.
INSIDE THE BOX
Pryor finished with 18 points and added three assists in 31 minutes.
Jayla Kimbrough continued her strong stretch with 14 points and she went 7-for-7 from the free throw line.
Justice Ross added 13 points and three assists.
Nahja Scott and
Zoe Cooper co-led the team in rebounds with five each.
Kyren Whittington finished with a game-high 22 points and added five assists along with four steals. Galic finished with 18 points but was held to just two in the second half. Irina Parau had 11 points and seven rebounds. The Green Wave had 27 assists on 34 field goals.
