HATTIESBURG, Miss. –
Didi Bredberg Canizares remained unbeaten in singles play but the New Orleans Privateers were defeated 6-1 by the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on Sunday afternoon at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex.
Bredberg cruised to a win as the first off court at flight one in singles. She only lost two games in her victory over Ebru Zeynep Yazgan 6-1, 6-1. Bredberg to date has only lost one set through six matches this season.
The Golden Eagles started the day with wins at court one and three in doubles. Yazgan and Alyssa Richter scored a 6-3 victory at flight one. Zenn Lim and Maddison Ricardo did the same at flight three by the same score.
When it broke to singles play, Southern Miss was able to finish all three matches that went three sets in their favor.
Richter rallied from a set down and persevered in a tiebreak in the third and final set to win at flight two. Suhana Das also won from a set down at flight three singles. Ricardo was involved in two long sets to start and won the final 6-1.
Lim won at flight five for Southern Miss with only three games dropped (6-1, 6-2).
The women's team is back in action on Tuesday against Alcorn State. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Privateer Tennis Center.
