BATON ROUGE – The New Orleans Privateers scored ten runs in the final three innings and pulled away to a 15-5 win over the Southern Jaguars on Wednesday at Lee-Hines Stadium.
DECISIONS
Caleb Seroski picked up his third win of the season in as many decisions. The loss went to Caleb Washington as he went to 0-1 on the year.
It was a game where Southern struck first on a two-run homer by O'Neill Burgos in the third inning. That lead was short lived though as New Orleans went for three runs in the top of the fourth.
Max Dias provided two on a double to the right-center gap.
The Jaguars tied it in the bottom of the fourth but New Orleans went ahead for good an inning later.
Maika Niu who made a big impact off the bench, scored on a wild pitch to give the Privateers the lead.
When it reached the seventh,
Kasten Furr came up with two men on and drilled a homer, his fifth of the season over the left field wall to extend the Privateer lead to 8-3. Burgos then homered to get two runs back and cut the New Orleans lead to 8-5.
However, Southern could not overcome 12 wild pitches and 11 walks as the Privateers continued to pour it on. Five runs came across in the eighth inning on four hits. The Privateers added two more runs in the ninth to close the scoring for the afternoon.
INSIDE THE BOX
Niu went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and three runs.
Dylan Mach,
Max Dias and
Issac Williams each added two hits. Furr went 2-for-6 with four RBI and
Tristan Moore added three hits and two RBI.
Colton Mercer and
Jose Cabrera each threw a scoreless inning in relief.
Canaan Clayton spanned 1.2 scoreless frames and
Connor Macip started the day with two shutout innings.
NEXT UP
The Privateers head to San Antonio to face UIW starting on Friday.
