Mead Notches Third Save of Week, Privateers Take Series Against HCU

NEW ORLEANSJacob Mead picked up his third save of the week and the New Orleans Privateers shut the HCU Huskies out after the third inning in a 10-6 win on Sunday afternoon at Maestri Field. The win gave the Privateers the 2-1 edge in the weekend series.

DECISIONS
Caleb Seroski threw 2.1 shutout innings in his second appearance of the weekend to pick up the win. The loss went to Jonathan Valdez. Mead closed it out by throwing the last three innings and needing just 28 pitches to get the last nine outs.

It was a game that featured a lot of offense early. Tristan Moore homered in each of his first two at-bats and Issac Williams also homered. That accounted for six total runs but the Huskies had an answer as they put up four runs in the second and two in the third.

With the bases loaded and Austin Roccaforte at the plate in the third inning though, Beau Blanchard came in with two outs. After Roccaforte fouled off three consecutive two-strike pitches, Blanchard got him swinging to keep the score level.

The Privateers broke through in the fifth inning to take the lead for good. Moore was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. After getting to third, he was driven in when Miguel Useche singled back up the middle.

New Orleans added to their lead in the sixth when Max Dias was brought in after Issac Williams singled through the right side of the infield on a 3-2 count. Dias came into play again as he added insurance in the eighth with an RBI double. Dias later scored on a wild pitch.

With the series in their pocket, the Privateers are now 19-7 all-time against HCU and 11-2 in home games.

INSIDE THE BOX
Moore went 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored. Williams had a four-RBI day at the plate. Dias and Dylan Mach combined for five runs scored. Blanchard has now stranded all nine runners he has inherited this season.

Roccaforte, Reed Chumley and Dylan LaRue each had two hits. Roccaforte and Logan Letney had two RBI apiece.

NEXT UP
The Privateers travel to Baton Rouge to play Southern on Tuesday, May 9. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
