Karen Cordero Barr Records Double-Double in Hard Fought Match Against Lady Demons

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers volleyball team put up a fierce battle but were ultimately defeated 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-17) in a highly competitive match against the Northwestern State Lady Demons on Thursday evening at the Human Performance Center.

The Lady Demons led throughout most of the first set after they went on a 5-0 run early to gain a 6-3 advantage. Northwestern State kept holding off the Privateers and had three chances for set point at 24-21. New Orleans saved the first two and forced a Lady Demons timeout but Jordan Gamble recorded a kill to earn the first set for the road side.

New Orleans and Northwestern State went at it in the second set which featured 12 ties and seven lead changes. Early blocks at the net and the offense of Karen Cordero Barr, who wound up with a match-high 18 kills, helped guide the Privateers to a 21-19 lead.

However, Northwestern State rattled off the next four points to earn a two-point edge of their own. They saw out the remainder of the set to lead the match 2-0.

The Lady Demons then posted an early 8-3 lead and though the Privateers threatened to get on level terms several times, they could not overcome a balanced Northwestern State offense which featured kills from six different players. The sixth service ace of the match ended the night in front of a vociferous crowd of 423.
