Privateers Defeated by HCU on Senior Day

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers honored the outgoing seniors on Saturday, but it was the HCU Huskies who won the match 3-0 (25-11, 25-9, 25-18) on Saturday afternoon at the Human Performance Center.

Prior to the match, Jamiryana Hall, Buse Kocakaya, Vera Beltrame, Molly Kehoe and Rita Zecchin were all honored as part of Senior Day festivities.

New Orleans and HCU went back and forth over the first 18 rallies as they were split evenly. With the score at 9-9, the Huskies went on their first big run of the match as they scored the next seven points of the set. Consecutive blocks started the run for HCU.

HCU seized control early in the second set and never relented. The Huskies began the set with a 12-1 run and hit .500 with 14 kills to two errors in 24 attempts.

The third set saw a tight battle until a 7-0 run by the Huskies ended matters. The score was tied four times including the last at 18-18 off a Kocakaya kill. New Orleans, though trailing for most of the set, kept the Huskies on their toes throughout the set.

Ravyn Dash then produced a kill that started the match-deciding run. Emerald Jacobs had two kills and a block in that span. Tatiana Evans then produced her team-leading sixth service ace to seal the victory for the Huskies.

INSIDE THE BOX
Kocakaya led the offense with six kills on the afternoon. Courtney Roundtree added four kills while Akeir Scales and Divine Muo had three kills each. Dayla Ward led the way in digs with seven. Muo, Jaedyn Newman and Defne Eciroglu each had five digs.
