Three Privateers Hit Double Figures in Loss to #24 Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – New Orleans shot efficiently on the night when they got their looks, but the turnover differential led to a 115-53 victory for the #24 Alabama Crimson Tide on Monday night at Coleman Coliseum.

New Orleans shot 46.2 percent through the first three quarters of play, but the Crimson Tide built a healthy early lead and knocked down 14 three-pointers on the night.

Both teams had to battle through early turnovers. The Privateers committed 13 turnovers in the first quarter while the Crimson Tide had nine turnovers. Alabama steadily built a lead as large as 18 points at the 2:13 mark.

The Privateers settled in offensively and ended the quarter with nine points in the final two minutes. Five of those came when a Jayla Kimbrough layup was followed by a Jasmine Jones triple, which came from an Alexis Calderon steal. At the end of the quarter, New Orleans cut the Crimson Tide lead to 25-13.

Alabama began the second quarter with a quick 7-0 spurt and made four of their first six field goals. The Crimson Tide also used the three-pointer to grow their lead throughout the quarter. Though the Privateers shot 60 percent, Alabama countered by hitting 60.9 percent of their attempts. The Tide went to the half with a 59-27 advantage.

Out of the locker room, Alabama knocked down triples on each of their first three possessions between Sarah Ashlee Barker, Karly Weathers and Aaliyah Nye in the first 78 seconds of the quarter.

The total for Alabama was their most points scored in a game since 1995.
