Seroski Throws Five Shutout Innings, Privateers Take Series Over Georgia State

NEW ORLEANSCaleb Seroski set the tone early and the New Orleans Privateers separated on the scoreboard in the middle innings of an 8-4 win over the Georgia State Panthers on Sunday afternoon at Maestri Field.

Seroski got the start, which was just his second in his collegiate career. The senior allowed just two hits and no walks against a potent Panthers lineup. It was his longest shutout outing of his career, surpassing the 4.2 shutout innings he threw in April 2022 against Nicholls.

New Orleans got the lead in the second inning when Issac Williams came around from second on a wild pitch and ensuing throwing error.

The Privateers continued to grow their lead from the fourth inning through the sixth as they added on six runs in that span while they held the Panthers scoreless. Dalton Hurst came up with a two-out, two-strike RBI single which drove in the first of three runs in the fourth.

Victor Castillo hit the first home run by a Privateer this season when he blasted one to deep right in the fifth inning. The Privateers also continued their trend of drawing free passes. They earned six walks and were hit twice on the day.

Georgia State got on the board in the seventh and made a late charge in the eighth when they put up three runs. JoJo Jackson hit a two-run triple as part of that spurt which cut the lead to 8-4.

That's when Nathan Blasick was called upon in his first appearance on the mound as a Privateer. Blasick finished the game by recording the last six outs. He allowed only one hit, an infield single to Colin Hynek and struck out two batters.

INSIDE THE BOX
Williams went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. He also drew a walk in his fourth plate appearance on the day. Castillo also scored twice. Hurst and Maika Niu each had a hit, an RBI and a run. Diego Villescas walked twice.

Ryan Dyal went 2-for-5 with a double and a run. The Panthers had 10 strikeouts from their pitching staff. Tyler Roche took the loss as he allowed four runs (three earned) in 3.2 innings.
