TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The New Orleans Privateers fell behind early on a two-out, two-run homer in the first inning and lost the series opener 13-0 to the Florida State Seminoles on Friday night at Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium.
Jaime Ferrer came up with two outs and worked a full count before he drove a pitch over the left field wall to give the Seminoles the early advantage. Florida State added on with four runs in the second and two more in the third to establish an 8-0 advantage.
Six of the eight runs the Seminoles scored in that span came with two outs in the inning.
The Privateers loaded the bases in the fourth inning on two walks and an
Alexander Saunier double. Seminoles starter Cam Leiter recorded a strikeout to get Florida State out of the inning and keep the Privateers off the board.
New Orleans had at least one baserunner in every inning from the third through the eighth and they loaded the bases again in the seventh.
Two walks and a fielding error set the stage as the Privateers had the bases full with one out. John Abraham went on to record a strikeout and a fly out to center to keep the shutout intact for Florida State.
INSIDE THE BOX
Saunier went 2-for-3 with a double on the night.
Trey Usey and
Brooks Byers combined for six strikeouts over the last four innings on the hill.
Issac Williams went 1-for-4 and
Collin Loupe reached base twice on the night.
Alex Lodise went 4-for-4 and landed a triple shy of the cycle. Marco Dinges collected three hits and the Seminoles had three home runs as a team. Leiter went six shutout innings and struck out six batters.

The second game of the series has been moved back to a 6 p.m. EST start on Saturday.
