NEW ORLEANS -
Jordan Johnson earned All-Southland honors as the league's All-Conference honorees were announced Saturday morning.
Johnson made the All-Conference team for a second consecutive year after he finished the regular season leading the conference in scoring (21.4), overall points (621), minutes per game (35:25), free throws (163), and field goals (192). His scoring ranks him 12th nationally.
The senior guard became the 25
th student-athlete in program history to surpass 1,000 career points at New Orleans. In addition to earning SLC Player of the Week twice, Johnson was named the
Associated Press and UBSWA (United States Basketball Writers Association) Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week after averaged 38.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2.5 points in one week.
The Memphis, Tennessee native recorded 30 plus point games seven times and is the eighth men's basketball player in Privateer history to score 40 points in a single game and to tie him for sixth most in program history.
McNeese swept Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Defensive POTY, and Newcomer of the Year awards. Shahada Wells won both Player and Newcomer of the Year and Will Wade earned Coach of the Year. Christian Shumate was named Defensive Player of the Year. Dominic Capriotti (Houston Christian) won Freshman of the Year.
The Privateers will start the Southland Tournament on Sunday when they take on 5-seed Southeastern at 5 p.m. CT.
