Privateers Set New Season Mark for Runs Scored, Defeat Bluefield State

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers set a new season mark in runs scored as they defeated the Bluefield State Big Blue 26-6 on Saturday afternoon at Maestri Field to secure the series victory.

The Privateers scored in every inning and had three innings with six or more runs on the day against the Big Blue.

New Orleans scored two runs in the first. With runners on the corners, the Privateers executed a double steal with Mitchell Sanford taking second and Diego Villescas swiping home. Later in the inning, Brady Prewitt had his first of four hits and five RBI on the day with a run-scoring double.

For an encore, Prewitt drove a three-run homer to left as part of a six-run second inning that separated the Privateers further on the scoreboard. Sanford also hit his first of two home runs on the day, driving his season home run total to 10.

After a run in the third inning, the Privateers hit another big offensive spurt with six runs in the fourth. That was followed by a five-run fifth against Bluefield State who wound up throwing two position players at the end of the game.

Bluefield State got six runs in the fourth through the sixth inning but it was the Privateers who were relentless on the day. 14 of the 16 Privateers who had an at-bat got a hit. On the mound, Grant Edwards went five innings for his third win of the season and had four strikeouts. He allowed three runs (one earned).

Colton Harrison also had a first as he hit his first collegiate home run. Harrison hit a line drive that zipped over the left field wall for a three-run homer in the fifth. He also had a sac fly an inning later to cap a four-RBI day.

With the win, the Privateers have become the third Southland team to reach 20 wins, joining Lamar and Nicholls.
