NEW ORLEANS –
Victor Castillo went 4-for-4 in his first game hitting leadoff but the Tulane Green Wave used three home runs to defeat the New Orleans Privateers 7-4 on Tuesday night at Maestri Field. With the win, the Green Wave have taken the Pelican Cup for 2024.
The score was tied 3-3 heading into the sixth. Marcus Cline got on via a walk and Teo Banks followed with a single to left. Then Colin Tuft came up and had his second extra base hit of the night, a three-run homer to give the Green Wave the lead.
Tulane added a run in the seventh to push their advantage to four. The Privateers threatened a comeback though when Castillo led off the eighth with a home run. After an
Issac Williams single and a hit by pitch that put
Mitchell Sanford on, the tying run came to the plate.
Miguel Useche got a good hold of the second pitch from Jacob Moore but flied out to deep center on a ball that traveled 368 feet. Moore retired the side in order in the ninth inning for his fourth save of the season.
New Orleans spent the first three innings building a lead. After the teams traded a run in the first inning, New Orleans got a run across on four walks and three wild pitches. The Privateers added another run when
Maika Niu hit an infield single that scored
Miguel Useche.
Tulane erased that early deficit and tied the game in the fourth on back-to-back home runs from Matthias Haas and Marcus Cline.
This is the second time the Green Wave have won the Pelican Cup since it was brought back in 2018.
