NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans men's basketball program will host Southern Miss for an exhibition game at Lakefront Arena on October 22, as announced today by head coach Stacy Hollowell.
Tickets for the 7 p.m. exhibition are priced at $25 for courtside seating, $10 for adults, and $5 for children ages 5-12. Proceeds from all ticket sales will be donated to the Son of a Saint organization and the University of New Orleans Privateer food pantry.
While the series between New Orleans and Southern Miss dates back to 1970, this will mark the first meeting between the two teams in an exhibition setting. The Privateers have a record of 11-11 against the Golden Eagles, including a notable home win in 2004 at Lakefront Arena, where New Orleans Hall of Famer Bo McCaleb led with 25 points, beginning a streak of thirteen consecutive games with 20 or more points.
First-year head coach Stacy Hollowell boasts a 15-man roster, featuring two returning starters: Jah Short and Turk Vincent. Short averaged 6.3 points and 3.5 rebounds per game while shooting 46.7% from the field and 64.8% from the free-throw line as a true freshman. Vincent contributed 8.4 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, shooting 42.7% from the field and 71.2% from the free-throw line. The senior led the team in double-doubles for the second consecutive season with three.
