Privateers Fall Behind Early in Loss at Northwestern State

NATCHITOCHES, La.Chenai Mushore registered her first double-double in a Privateer uniform but the New Orleans Privateers could not overcome a hot shooting start by the Northwestern State Lady Demons in an 83-66 loss on Thursday night at Prather Coliseum.

Mushore scored all 10 of her points in the second half and pulled down 12 rebounds (five offensive) in 29 minutes of play, but Northwestern State ended the night by shooting 50.8 percent from the field and 42 percent from three-point range.

The Lady Demons saw their leading scorer, Mya Blake pick up her second foul nearly five minutes into the contest. However, it was Sharna Ayres who took it from there with 11 first quarter points. The Lady Demons also closed the first quarter on a 10-0 run as they led by 17 after the opening ten minutes.

In the second quarter, New Orleans started to claw their way back in the proceedings. They held Northwestern State scoreless for nearly four minutes and used that stretch to cut the Lady Demons lead to single digits at 36-27.

However, the home side responded by scoring the last nine points of the half to carry an 18-point lead into the locker room.

New Orleans cut a 22-point Northwestern State lead early in the third quarter to 14 but could not get closer than within 13 points for the remainder of the second half. Vernell Atamah led the Lady Demons with 29 points and Ayres finished with 20 points for Northwestern State who moved to 5-1 in conference.

INSIDE THE BOX
Brialle Washington led the Privateers with a season-high 18 points and added two steals. Alexis Calderon played all 40 minutes and had 11 points with three assists. The Privateers had 19 offensive rebounds (44 total) on the night.

WE ARE YOUR KREWE
For 54 seasons, Privateer student-athletes have had the unique experience of wearing New Orleans across their chests.  Like the city itself, our sports teams have been fueled by resiliency, grit, and the unquenchable desire to win.  Our city also houses the nation's biggest celebration each year. And much like a Mardi Gras parade krewe, we are tethered to our community through pride, tradition, a culture of acceptance, and finally our commitment to show that New Orleans is a world-class city to live, learn, play and work. We invite you to become more involved with the only University that truly represents New Orleans all day, every day.  Join #NOLAsTeam, We Are Your Krewe!
