Privateers Push Southeastern to Extra Rallies in Third Set of Thursday Loss

HAMMOND, La. – The New Orleans Privateers pushed the Southeastern Lions to extra rallies in a third set that featured 13 ties and five lead changes but fell just short of extending the match in a 3-0 loss (25-11, 25-18, 26-24) on Thursday at the University Center.

New Orleans led early in the set at 7-5 after an Ania Anderson kill. Southeastern surged ahead over the next ten rallies as they took a 12-10 lead. Though they were pushed to the limit and beyond, the Lions never trailed for the remainder of the set.

The Privateers fought off the first Southeastern attempt at match point after an attack error, but Southeastern converted on their second look after a Privateer attack error.

The Lady Lions went without an attack error in the opening set and had 10 kills in 14 attempts. After a service error by the Privateers to start the match, Southeastern went on an ensuing 11-3 run to build an early nine-point lead. Four Lions had a kill in the first set.

It was a fierce battle throughout most of the second set as the Privateers grabbed an early 10-7 lead and kept matters tight on the scoreboard. Courtney Roundtree engineered a solo block to make the score 18-17 in favor of Southeastern.

From there, the Lions scored on seven of the last eight rallies to pull away in the second set. Kyra McKelvey had three kills in that stretch for the Lions.

Alexis Logarbo and McKelvey combined for 28 of the team's 46 kills. Taylor Stockwell had a team-high 13 digs.

INSIDE THE BOX
Alessandra Meoni and Vanae Sapp each had eight kills to lead the Privateer offense. Akeir Scales had two solo blocks. Sapp also led the team in digs with five on the night. Peyton Cole and Defne Eciroglu each had a service ace.
