NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers put up a fierce battle against the conference co-leader, Stephen F. Austin Lady Jacks but fell 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-18) on Thursday night at the Human Performance Center.
The Privateers had a 14-12 lead in the first set as they kept the potent Lady Jacks at an attack percentage under .200 in that stretch. Five different Privateers registered a kill in that stretch. However, Stephen F. Austin surged back ahead shortly after that point with a five-point mini spurt of their own.
The Lady Jacks edged away in the first set, which was keyed by kills from four different players down the stretch of the first set.
The second set saw the score tied on eight different occasions from the point where it was 11-11. New Orleans had 14 kills in that set, but it was the Lady Jacks who provided the last surge. With the score tied at 22-22, Kyanna Creecy registered a kill. Two other Lady Jacks scored in the next two rallies to give Stephen F. Austin a 2-0 lead in the match.
New Orleans again pushed the Lady Jacks throughout the third set as they split the first 14 rallies of the set evenly. Stephen F. Austin then went on an 8-2 run to separate to a six-point advantage.
However, the Privateers trimmed the gap to three points on two different occasions after that which was brought on by two kills from
Vanae Sapp who had a team-high eight kills for the match. It was a service error that ended the night though in favor of Stephen F. Austin as they held off a determined Privateers squad to move to 12-1 in conference play.
The Privateers had 14 more digs and 16 more kills than in their first match against Stephen F. Austin in early October.
Camryn Hill and Katherine Holtman combined for 24 kills on the night. Creecy had seven kills and five total blocks.
INSIDE THE BOX
Ania Anderson had seven kills and a team-high 13 digs to lead the defense.
Courtney Roundtree finished with seven kills and
Alessandra Meoni added six kills.
Defne Eciroglu had 14 assists and five digs while
Rylie Hallman finished with 10 assists and 12 digs. Sapp added five digs and the Privateers had 56 digs as a unit on the night.

The Privateers will close out their home slate on Saturday against Lamar with a first serve scheduled for 11 a.m.
