Banks, Washington Combine For 31 Points in Loss at Tulsa

TULSA, Okla.Lauren Banks scored 11 points in the first half and the New Orleans Privateers pushed the Tulsa Golden Hurricane until the home team separated in a 77-60 decision on Wednesday night at the Reynolds Center.
 
The Golden Hurricane flew to an early 12-0 lead in the first 2:48, but the Privateers settled things down after that point. Brialle Washington got the Privateers on the board with a three-pointer, one of five New Orleans made in the first half.
 
New Orleans left the first quarter still trailing by double digits at 19-9, but the Privateers hit their first run of the game. After Mady Cartwright sank a triple to put Tulsa up 22-11 with 6:41 in the first half, the Privateers responded by scoring on four of their next five possessions.
 
Banks had five quick points in that stretch and the Privateers tied the score at 22-22. Tulsa surged back ahead by as many as eight points in the final minute, but a Hailee Brennen three capped off the first half scoring as the Privateers trailed 36-31 heading into the locker room.
 
The Privateers trailed by four points after Shanihya Brown converted a layup from a steal that made the score 39-35. That was as close as the Privateers got on the scoreboard in the second half as Tulsa expanded their lead to nine points heading to the fourth.
 
Tulsa shot 47 percent in the fourth quarter and made five triples to finish out the night in what was their season opener. Cartwright scored 26 points to lead the Golden Hurricane and Alisha Peavy had nine points and 12 rebounds.
 
INSIDE THE BOX
Banks finished with a team-high 16 points and added four rebounds. Jayla Kimbrough had a team-high 12 boards. Washington finished with 15 points and five rebounds. Jayla Owen added nine points.Brown and Hailee Brennen each had six points on the night.
 
NEXT UP
