Brown, Washington Combine For 27 Points in Loss to #5 LSU

NEW ORLEANSShanihya Brown and Brialle Washington combined for 27 points as the New Orleans Privateers fell 126-62 to the LSU Tigers on Sunday afternoon at the Lakefront Arena.
 
The Privateers got an early three-pointer from Aaliyah Ellis to make the score 6-5 at the 6:29 mark of the first quarter. The Tigers got a quick triple in response which was the start of a 17-3 run that elapsed the next five minutes.
 
LSU exited the first quarter with a 28-12 lead in front of a crowd of 1,588, the second largest home crowd in women's basketball history.
 
New Orleans was held to three points in the first five minutes of the second quarter, but turned up the offense by scoring 14 points in the final five minutes of the half. That was keyed by Brown and Washington who scored nine of those points. LSU led 63-29 at the halftime break.
 
LSU shot 58.8 percent from the field and scored 86 points in the paint. The Tigers also had a 57-29 advantage on the boards. Two Tigers had double-doubles: Amiya Joyner had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Grace Knox contributed 12 points and 12 rebounds. LSU also had 34 assists on 50 made baskets.
 
INSIDE THE BOX
Brown scored 14 points to lead the offense. Washington finished with 13 points and went 3-of-5 from three-point range. Ellis finished with eight points and two steals. Sephora Kayolo made her Privateer debut and had five rebounds. Lauren Banks had the most boards with six.
 
NEXT UP
The Privateers play another in-state opponent when they travel to Tulane next Sunday, Dec. 14. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.
