Privateers Fall Behind Early in Season Opening Loss to West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The New Orleans Privateers gave up a five-run first inning and were defeated 18-3 in the 2025 regular season opener by the West Georgia Wolves on Friday night at Cole Field.

Bryan Loriga got the scoring started for the Privateers with a towering solo home run that gave New Orleans a 1-0 lead before the Wolves could bat. West Georgia responded by sending all nine men to the plate. Brady McDevit had the biggest hit of the inning with a three-run double.

West Georgia continued with the offense in the third. A leadoff double by Noah Darden set the stage for four more runs to cross. McDevit added two more RBI on a single and Cooper Prince tacked on a two-run triple.

New Orleans got a second home run on the night from Collin Husser. The Ponchatoula native just missed a homer in his first at-bat in the second inning but parked one later in the game when he homered off Brendan Parks in the seventh.

However, it was West Georgia's night as a debuting Division I school. Lane Pearson went six innings and surrendered just one run on four hits and struck out seven. Parks got a three-inning save as he closed the game out with five strikeouts and two runs allowed on three hits.

Grant Edwards took the loss after giving up five earned runs (nine total) in three innings of work. The Privateer pitching staff between Edwards, Trey Usey and Brooks Byers had 12 strikeouts.

INSIDE THE BOX
