Fourth Quarter Rally by HCU Stings Privateers

HOUSTON, Texas – The HCU Huskies used a big fourth quarter run to overcome a nine-point deficit as they defeated the New Orleans Privateers 54-49 on Saturday afternoon at Sharp Gym.

New Orleans controlled the action throughout most of the game and led 44-35 with six minutes left after Jayla Kimbrough sank a floater to put her in double figures on the day.

That's when HCU began their run that lasted the rest of the game. They outscored the Privateers 19-5 and were perfect from the field and the free throw line. The Huskies made their last seven field goal attempts and five free throw attempts in that stretch. HCU took the lead for good with 1:55 left after Tiffany Tullis converted a layup and made the free throw after getting fouled on the shot.

New Orleans got out to a quick start as they led 13-2 and routinely disrupted the Huskies' rhythm early in the contest. HCU made only three field goals in the first quarter and the Privateers exited the opening 10 minutes with a seven-point lead.

The Privateers forced 29 HCU turnovers on the game and converted those into 24 points. HCU turned 19 Privateer turnovers into 15 points.

Tullis finished with 15 points to lead the Huskies while Amy Cotton pulled down 10 rebounds and dished out seven assists. The Huskies led the rebounding category 38-33 on the day. The win for HCU was the first in the last four meetings.

INSIDE THE BOX
Nora Francois led the Privateers with 13 points, seven rebounds and four steals in 33 minutes. Kimbrough added 12 points and Jasmine Jones finished with double figures for her third straight game after scoring 10 points on the contest.
