NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers conceded seven runs in the opening frame and could not recover in a 14-4 loss to the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks on Saturday at Pilgrim's Park.
Stephen F. Austin sent 12 men to the plate in the opening frame to take the early advantage. After the first two men reached, Dante Turgeon hit his first home run of the day to give the Lumberjacks a 3-0 lead.
The Lumberjacks capped off the frame when Cermodrick Bland singled to center, scoring a pair of runs that put the Privateers in an early predicament.
New Orleans got two runs back in the second to get on the board.
Justin Best had his first of three hits on the day, an RBI single that scored
Bryce Calloway. Later, a
Collin Loupe sac fly brought home
Karson Evans.
Stephen F. Austin put up another crooked number when they scored three in the third inning, all with two outs. That included Turgeon's second homer of the day.
The Lumberjacks built a 14-2 lead heading into the sixth, but the Privateers scored two in that frame as they attempted to extend the game.
Dalton Hurst had an RBI ground out and
Alexander Saunier followed with a sac fly.
Needing a run in the seventh after
Lucas Rodriguez threw a scoreless frame on the mound, the Privateers were not able to break through further against Kadin Munson.
Dylan Mulcahy went five innings and allowed two runs on four hits for his first win of the season.
Zach Longshore took the loss.
