NACOGDOCHES, Texas –
Skylar Jones and
Bryce Calloway combined to shut down the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks over the final 4.1 innings as the New Orleans Privateers scored a 3-2 victory at Pilgrim's Park to clinch the opening conference series.
Matthew Bienvenu got the start and held the Lumberjacks without a hit until the fifth inning as the Privateers built an early 3-0 lead.
Jake D'Altrui singled through the left side to bring home the first run in the second inning. Calloway followed an inning later as he plated two on a single to left in the third.
The Lumberjacks got in the hit column when Ethan Adkinsson singled with one out. Three batters later, Josh Ibe tripled to bring in two runs and cut the Privateer lead to one. Jones came out of the pen and got Julian Swift to ground into an inning-ending fielder's choice.
From there, Jones retired the next nine men he faced in order and struck out three batters to keep the Lumberjacks behind.
Calloway entered in his second save situation of the weekend and delivered again as he retired the Lumberjacks' trio of Mark Henning, Kevin Duran and Adkisson to secure his third save of the season. Jones, who also got the win against South Alabama, picked up his second decision of the week.
Reid Boyett came in with one out in the third after Elian Balmaceda was lifted and Boyett proceeded to throw 6.2 shutout innings for the Lumberjacks.
The two hits allowed by the pitching staff is the fewest in a game since Apr. 11, 2023 when they did it against Dillard.
