Mueses Drives in Five Runs, Privateers Defeat Xavier (La.)

NEW ORLEANSMarco Mueses drove in five runs and landed a home run shy of the cycle as the New Orleans Privateers notched a 17-7 win after seven innings against the Xavier Gold Rush on Tuesday at Maestri Field.

Xavier got the early jump when Kai Higginson doubled to drive in Miles Peterson and give the Gold Rush a 1-0 lead through the opening frame.

The Privateers (8-7) had their biggest inning in the second as they scored eight runs and sent 13 men to the plate. Seven of the eight runs scored with two outs. After the game was tied on an RBI fielder's choice, Justin Best gave New Orleans the lead with an infield single.

Then Mueses came up and had the first of his big hits, a double into the gap that cleared the bases and scored three runs.

Xavier kept punching back as they scored in five of the seven innings, but the Privateers won out on the night with six doubles playing a key part in the offensive production. Five Privateers had two or more RBI on the night.

Xavier had five hits on the evening, which included a two-run double by Zion Morris. Peterson scored two runs and the Gold Rush stole four bases.

The win went to Canaan Clayton in his first start. He struck out four batters in two innings of work.
