SAN ANTONIO, Texas –
Bryce Calloway recorded the last eight outs for his fourth save of the season and the New Orleans Privateers defeated the UIW Cardinals 10-7 to take the series at Sullivan Field.
Calloway entered with a 1-0 count and a runner on first in the seventh. He proceeded to get the first five outs quickly, using just 17 pitches. The ninth saw the Cardinals bring the tying run to the plate, but Calloway induced a ground out off the bat of Kegan Magee to preserve the victory.
Skylar Jones picked up the win to move to 3-0. In his first start in a Privateer uniform, Jones went five innings and struck out eight batters.
New Orleans fell behind 3-0 after the second inning, but the Cardinal lead was short lived.
Collin Loupe hit an opposite field home run, the first of three homers by the Privateers on the day. Three batters later,
Bryan Loriga doubled down the left field line to tie the score at 3-3.
The Privateers (10-7, 4-4) went ahead an inning later with two runs scoring in the fourth. The second happened when
Karson Evans came around to score from second on an errant pickoff throw.
Jones faced a bases loaded jam with one out, but he got a three-pitch strikeout against Ryder Hernandez and subsequently induced an inning-ending ground out from Tony DeJesus to keep the Privateers in front.
Karson Evans had a two-run homer that pushed the Privateer lead to three in the sixth.
Adrian Dominguez's solo homer was the first of three run in the ninth that built the New Orleans lead to 10-5.
