NEW ORLEANS – Southeastern got out of a tough spot in the third inning and pulled away late in an 8-3 decision over the New Orleans Privateers on Saturday evening at Maestri Field.
The teams traded a run each in the second. Southeastern (21-6, 8-3) got a run in after two walks and a hit batter set up a Cole Stromboe RBI fielder's choice. The Privateers responded when
Collin Husser homered for the second time this weekend in the bottom of the frame.
The Lions went back ahead with the combination of two doubles and three wild pitches, all of which scored runs to give Southeastern a 4-1 advantage.
New Orleans (14-11, 7-7) got an infield single from
Collin Loupe and a walk drawn by
Diego Villescas.
Matt Gonzalez reached on a sacrifice bunt attempt from an errant throw by Lions catcher, Conner O'Neal.
However, starter, Luke Lirette recovered to retire the next three batters in order to keep all of the Lions' lead intact.
