Privateers Fall in Series Finale to UTRGV

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers conceded a five-run fourth inning and could not recover in a 9-2 loss to the UTRGV Vaqueros on Sunday afternoon at Maestri Field. The Vaqueros finished off the series sweep with the win.

The Vaqueros got a first inning run when Isaac Lopez led off with a single, got to second on a wild pitch and scored on two subsequent ground outs.

The score held at 1-0 as UTRGV starter, Jacob Limas worked through multiple baserunners in the first and third inning. Then, the Vaqueros opened up their lead in the fourth. Steven Lancia doubled to lead off the frame. The Vaqueros went on to draw back-to-back bases loaded walks. The Vaqueros got a pair of two-out singles as well to extend the lead to 6-0.

New Orleans got on the board in the sixth when the Vaqueros committed their first error of the game that allowed Diego Villescas to score.

Tristan Moore also homered late in the contest, marking his 22nd in a Privateer uniform when he hit a solo shot in the eighth.

It was the first time the Privateers were swept in a Southland series since April 2022 (Southeastern).

Limas allowed one unearned run over 5.2 innings in the win. The loss went to Matthew Bienvenu (0-1).
