Bullpen Aides in Comeback Victory as Privateers Win Series Over UNC-Asheville

NEW ORLEANSDiego Villescas produced a two-out, two-strike walk-off single as the New Orleans Privateers rallied in the ninth to win 5-4 over the UNC-Asheville Bulldogs on Saturday at Maestri Field.
 
The Privateers (18-15) entered the ninth trailing 4-3. Adrian Dominguez came up in a pinch hit spot and drove a double into right. Two batters later, Karson Evans was hit by a pitch. With runners on the corners and one out, Evans drew the attention of pitcher, Daylinh Nguyen-Brown while pinch runner, Jahlani Rogers broke for home.
 
Rogers got in ahead of a short throw while Evans got to second, which tied the game at 4-4. One pitch later, Villescas dropped a single into shallow right on a 1-2 count to cement the series for the Privateers.
 
The bullpen was strong, led by Aiden Torrez who had his longest outing of the year. He allowed just one unearned run on three hits in 4.2 innings and threw 59 pitches (39 strikes). He was followed by Cole Syversen and Ira Austin who each put up a scoreless inning.
 
This weekend, New Orleans has issued just five walks. Relievers have issued just one free pass in 9.2 innings worked on the weekend.
 
UNC-Asheville (11-22) got the scoring started with three runs in the second off two errors. The Privateers got a run back when Evans homered on a line drive to right off Bulldogs starter, Clay Edmondson.
 
New Orleans got two RBI hits from Bryce Calloway to narrow the gap further. He delivered an RBI single on a 3-2 pitch in the sixth and came up two innings later with a double to right, which pulled the Privateers within a run.
 
INSIDE THE BOX
Calloway finished 2-for-3 with two RBI. Villescas had a walk on top of the game winning hit. Evans finished 1-for-3 with two runs scored. The double for Dominguez was his fourth of the season. Austin got the win on the mound to move his record to 3-1.
