BEAUMONT, Texas –
Grant Edwards struck out 11 batters through eight innings, but the Lamar Cardinals hit a walk-off single in the 10
th inning to take a 4-3 decision over the New Orleans Privateers on Friday at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
The Cardinals got the first two men aboard after a Damian Ruiz single and a Brayden Evans walk. After a sac bunt, the Privateers decided to load the bases after intentionally walking Zak Skinner. That sent it to Zane Spinn who hit a single that stayed just inside the line to end the night.
Edwards was humming through the game as he didn't allow his first hit until the fourth inning. The Privateers in that span, grabbed a 1-0 lead after
Matt Gonzalez hit the first of two doubles on the night, scoring
Collin Loupe in the third inning.
Lamar took their first lead of the night in the fifth inning. Three consecutive hits began the inning and tied the score at 1-1. Matt Ryan then reached on an error that put the Cardinals on top and Bryce Grizzaffi added an infield single to make it 3-1.
The Privateers punched right back in the next inning as Gonzalez doubled and was brought in by an Aleander Saunier line drive single to center.
While Edwards kept the Cardinals off balance for two more innings on the mound, the offense got the tying run in the seventh.
Collin Husser reached on an error and was moved to third with two outs. That's when
Adrian Dominguez came off the bench and delivered a pinch hit double to tie the score.
Peyton Havard got the win in relief for Lamar after throwing the final two innings with three strikeouts. Ruiz, Spinn and Heladio Moreno each had two hits for the Cardinals.

Edwards tied a career high in strikeouts, a mark he also achieved against Northwestern State earlier this season.
