Privateers Narrow Deficit Late but Cannot Complete Comeback in Loss at Lamar

BEAUMONT, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers closed a three-run gap in the seventh inning, but could not complete the comeback as they fell 3-2 to the Lamar Cardinals on Saturday at Vincent-Beck Stadium.

The Privateers got the first two men on with an Adrian Dominguez infield single and a Jahlani Rogers double. A sac fly and an RBI groundout brought both men home to cut the Cardinals' lead to one.

However, Luke Krkovski came in for Lamar and kept the Privateers from conjuring up a threat in the final two innings as he picked up his second save of the year. Krkovski retired all six batters he faced.

Lamar got on the board first when Damian Ruiz led off the first inning with a solo home run. From there, Zach Longshore settled in and kept the Cardinals quiet until they punched across two runs in the fifth on a Zak Skinner double.

Carson Kimball came on for the Privateers and finished the fifth, then kept the Cardinals off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game. He threw 3.2 innings in his longest appearance of the season and allowed one hit in that span.

Chris Olivier picked up his sixth win of the season after he went seven innings with seven strikeouts and two runs allowed. Ruiz and Tab Tracy each had two hits for the Cardinals.

Saturday marked the 14th one-run game the Privateers have played in this season. Their record is now at 8-6 in those contests.

INSIDE THE BOX
The Privateers had five hits on the evening. Dominguez went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles and a hit-by-pitch. Matt Gonzalez had a hit and a stolen base while Bryce Calloway also had a hit.
