BEAUMONT, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers grabbed an early lead, but Lamar took control in the middle innings as they completed a 13-3 win over the Privateers on Sunday to sweep the weekend series.
New Orleans went ahead in the second inning on the strength of three consecutive singles from
Tristan Moore,
Collin Husser and
Marco Mueses. A
Karson Evans sac fly followed to give the Privateers a 2-0 advantage.
Lamar came back for two runs in the third. After a walk and a single to lead off the frame, the Cardinals executed a successful double steal to put both runners in scoring position. The two runs scored on an RBI groundout and a wild pitch that leveled the score at 2-2.
The Cardinals took the lead an inning later as a fielder's choice and ensuing error allowed the go-ahead run to score. Brayden Evans then came up with a two-out, two-run single to extend the Lamar lead to 5-2.
New Orleans got a run back in the sixth inning, but the Cardinals put the game out of reach in the bottom of that inning as they plated five runs. Damian Ruiz hit a double down the line to score two runs and Zane Spinn also added a two-run single in the inning.
Lamar added three runs in the eighth to finish it off in a run rule. With the win, the Cardinals have improved to 24-2 at home this season.
