JACKSON, Miss. – The New Orleans Privateers commenced a massive rally from an eight-run deficit, but were denied at the end as the Jackson State Tigers held on to win 15-14 on Wednesday night at Braddy Field.
New Orleans was trailing 14-6 entering the seventh when they scored three runs with two outs. Another three-spot on a home run by
Bryce Calloway helped the Privateers trim the deficit to 15-12.
Bryan Loriga led off the inning with a single and was immediately brought home on a
Jahlani Rogers triple. Two batters later after an
Aiden Torrez walk,
Karson Evans drilled a double down the left field line that brought the Privateers within a run.
Weekend starter, Eric Elliott, who allowed the double to Evans, recovered to strike out the next three batters though and keep the Tigers' winning streak going as it has extended to seven games.
New Orleans jumped on top in the first inning on the 29
th career home run by
Tristan Moore, which was a two-run bomb to left. The Tigers clawed their way to the lead though in the third as three runs crossed keyed by a two-run double from Tyshon Patty.
The Privateers swung right back in the fifth inning as Loriga hit a bases clearing double to tie the game. He later scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. However, that advantage was short lived as Jackson State countered with eight runs in their half of the fifth.
Jackson State collected six hits and were also aided by two Privateer errors in the inning that ultimately gave the Tigers enough cushion on their new found lead.
JeAndrick Lourens picked up his first win of the year. He gave up four unearned runs over two innings. The save for Elliott was his first of the year.
