Privateers' Ninth Inning Rally Comes Up Short at McNeese

LAKE CHARLES, La. – The New Orleans Privateers scored three runs in the ninth and brought the tying run to the plate, but their late comeback attempt fell short in a 10-8 loss to the McNeese Cowboys on Saturday at Joe Miller Ballpark.

The Privateers entered the ninth trailing 10-5. That's when Bryce Calloway worked a walk ahead of Tristan Moore's two-run homer to cut the deficit to three. Collin Husser followed with a solo home run.

Jahlani Rogers then got on via a base hit up the middle, but the Cowboys called on Jake Blackell who closed things down. He retired the next three batters in order for his second save of the year as the Cowboys threw eight relievers behind Alexis Gravel who gave five innings.

McNeese took a 3-0 lead through the first three innings, but the Privateers clawed their way back. They tied the game after three walks started the inning. One of the runs scored on a balk and the other on an RBI ground out to tie the game at 3-3.

The Cowboys responded in their half of the sixth with three runs, all scoring with two outs. Conner Westenburg tripled to bring in the go-ahead run and Matt Stancliff followed with a two-run homer.

New Orleans punched right back in the seventh with two runs including a Calloway homer that traveled 473 feet. However, the Cowboys came right back with three runs in the bottom of the seventh.

The Cowboys had 12 hits, eight of which went for extra bases. The Privateers collected 10 hits on the day including three home runs.

The win went to Parker Primeaux while the loss was taken by Carson Kimball.
