Longshore Goes Eight Strong Innings, Privateers Suffer One-Run Loss at McNeese

LAKE CHARLES, La. – A line drive double into the gap in right-center brought home the deciding run as the McNeese Cowboys defeated the New Orleans Privateers 3-2 on Sunday at Joe Miller Ballpark.

Larry Edwards Jr. led off the inning with a single to center. After Davis Meche struck out, Easton Dowell came to the plate and offered at the first pitch. Edwards came around to score on the play.

New Orleans got eight strong innings from Zach Longshore who limited the Cowboys to just four hits on the afternoon. Longshore had a pitch count of 88 and struck out five batters in his longest outing in a Privateer uniform.

Each team traded punches throughout the game. The Privateers struck first when they got a third inning run. Collin Loupe doubled down the line and was moved over to third on a sac bunt by Xavier Rivera. Bryce Calloway then brought Loupe home to give the Privateers the early edge.

McNeese tied it in the fifth when Dowell tripled to right center. He scored on a later wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1. The Cowboys went ahead in the sixth when Bryce Fontenot notched an RBI single with two outs.

Loupe tied the score in the seventh as the Privateers responded. Jake D'Altrui hit an infield single and was later brought in by Loupe's RBI single with one out. Loupe was one of four Privateers who finished with two hits on the day, joining Bryan Loriga, Tristan Moore and Adrian Dominguez.

Dowell went 2-for-4 with a pair of extra base hits for the Cowboys. Jake Blackwell got the win.
