BATON ROUGE, La. – The New Orleans Privateers surged ahead early in the night and cruised their way to a 15-4 win in seven innings over the Southern Jaguars on Wednesday night at Lee Hines Field.
The onslaught from the Privateers included 10 runs in the first three innings.
New Orleans set the stage early, loading the bases through the first three batters. After the first run came in via a passed ball,
Bryce Calloway hit a two-run single through the right side that scored two more to give the Privateers a 3-0 lead.
In a designed bullpen game,
Hayden O'Dell got the start and went scoreless through his half of the first on the mound. After Benny Bikar reached on an error, O'Dell retired the next three batters in order.
The Privateers continued to apply early pressure with a four-run second inning. That was started up when
Diego Villescas doubled in
Dalton Hurst. Villescas was one of six men in the lineup with at least two hits on the night.
Southern got themselves back in the game with a four-run second inning. Jalon Mack doubled to bring in a pair of runs that brought the Privateers lead down to 7-4, but that's as close as it got for the remainder of the night.
New Orleans opened up again with a three-run third inning. Calloway,
Tristan Moore and
Marco Mueses each drove in a run as the Privateers extended their lead again to 10-4.
From there, the pitching took over. The combination of
Trey Usey,
Matthew Bienvenu,
Brooks Byers,
Gus Rogers and
Ira Austin allowed just two hits over the next five innings. They also combined for seven strikeouts.
INSIDE THE BOX
Moore had a three-hit night with four RBI. Calloway drew three walks and had three RBI.
Alexander Saunier and
