O'Dell's Strong Outing, Husser's Grand Slam Key Privateers Win in Series Finale

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers got a grand slam from Collin Husser and an excellent outing from Hayden O'Dell that keyed a 9-4 victory over the Nicholls Colonels in the home regular season finale at Maestri Field.

O'Dell entered with the Colonels already having scored two runs. With the bases loaded, the lefty struck out Fisher Ingersoll to finish the frame and get the Privateer offense to work.

The offense obliged as a lot of lengthy at-bats and two walks surrounding a Bryce Calloway single loaded the bases. Husser came up and took a pitch on a line drive to right for a grand slam, his second homer of the weekend.

O'Dell continued to keep the Colonels off balance with his three-pitch mix and he wound up going 6.1 innings with two runs allowed on three hits in his second win of the season.

The Privateers also got a lot of free passes from the Colonels whose pitching staff walked 14 batters and hit three more on the day. Three free passes occurred with the bases loaded that contributed to runs in the third, fifth and sixth inning.

With one more win or one Nicholls loss next week, the Privateers will officially be in the field of eight to battle for the 2025 Southland championship.

Nicholls had just three hits on the day between Jaden Collura, Aaron Biediger and Andy Miller. The loss went to Cole Simoneaux who gave up five runs in 2.2 innings.
