NEW ORLEANS – Head Athletic Trainer, Alyssa Reyes was bestowed the honor of Athletic Trainer of the Year by the Louisiana Athletic Trainers' Association in recognition of the dedication and service towards athletic training.
Reyes, who came to the University of New Orleans in 2021, was honored a the LATA Summer Symposium on June 6. All nominees must be a current certified member of LATA, employed at a college or university in Louisiana for at least two years, and must be nominated formally to the LATA Executive Committee.
"When I moved to Louisiana in 2021, I never imagined the opportunities that would come my way," said Reyes. "I'm incredibly grateful to Ochsner and UNO for their unwavering support and for helping me grow into the leader I am today. I'm so thankful to Nichole Labowe, my supervisor, for her leadership and for nominating me. Receiving this award is truly an honor."
Reyes, who is the Director of Sports Medicine with the Privateers program, also works directly with the school's golf and tennis teams. She started on the Lakefront in January 2021.
A 2011 Penn State graduate, Reyes went on to earn her Master's degree from Delaware in 2013. Among Reyes' previous employers were Neumann University and the Aligned Medical Group.
