BALTIMORE, Md. – The New Orleans Privateers took the opening set but they were ultimately defeated 3-1 (18-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-20) by the Kent State Golden Flashes on Friday at Hill Field House in the Morgan State-Towson Invitational.
It was the Privateers who got the early jump behind an efficient first set that saw the team hit .520. They had 15 kills to just two errors in 25 attempts and used a late surge to finish the set in their favor on a
Laura Piva kill.
However, the Golden Flashes turned the tables by winning the next three sets. In the second and fourth set, they had attack percentages of over .400. The Golden Flashes hit .315 for the match.
New Orleans got an early lead by a 6-3 score line but Kent State rallied to take the lead and held off the Privateers' challenge in a set that saw 12 ties and four lead changes.
In the last two sets, there was only one lead change. The Golden Flashes got the early momentum in the third set as they built an early eight-point lead. The Privateers got the advantage down to four but could not cut it any closer. Kent State had nine total blocks to the Privateers' three.
INSIDE THE BOX
Alessandra Meoni had a season-high 16 kills and hit .429.
Courtney Roundtree had 14 kills.
Akeir Scales finished with five kills and a .333 attack percentage.
Defne Eciroglu had 28 assists while
Celia Mbaya led the defense with 18 digs.
Ella Moss added nine digs on the afternoon.
