Mbaya Records 24 Digs in Privateers' Loss to Towson

BALTIMORE, Md. – The New Orleans Privateers got a third consecutive match from Courtney Roundtree with double digit kills but they fell on the short end of a 3-1 decision (25-12, 22-25, 25-17, 25-22) to the Towson Tigers on Saturday morning in the first match of the day at the SECU Arena.

The Tigers assumed control early in the opening set behind a .438 attack percentage. Three kills by Erin Brothers keyed a late run as the Tigers went on a 9-2 run to close the first set in their favor.

New Orleans bounced back behind a 7-1 run that gave them a 16-13 lead. Alessandra Meoni had two kills and a block assist in that stretch. The Tigers leveled the score at 21-21, but the Privateers pushed through to the wire to even the match at 1-1.

A Towson service error brought about set point and the Privateers capitalized at the first time of asking with a kill by Roundtree.

New Orleans trimmed a six-point Tigers lead early in the set to one when Ryan Williams registered a kill to cut the deficit to 18-17. From there the Tigers scored on the service rotation of Ella Sanders who had two aces to help Towson close out the set for a 2-1 lead.

The Privateers had their most efficient set on offense in the fourth with a .424 attack percentage and 16 kills to just two errors on 33 attempts. The Tigers had three more kills though and a slightly higher attack percentage at .441.

The most decisive swing was four points in succession scored by the Tigers that vaulted them to a 17-14 lead. The Privateers hung around and got the deficit to within one, but could not pull to level terms.

Erin Brothers led the Tigers' attack with 20 kills. Taylor Pagan added 15 kills.
