NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers set a new season-high for a second straight game with eight blocked shots but they fell on the short end of an 85-63 decision against Stephen F. Austin on Saturday at Lakefront Arena.
Stephen F. Austin used a big third quarter where they scored 31 points to create more distance on their lead. The Lady Jacks shot 57.9 percent from the field and made 5-of-10 three-point attempts to extend their lead to 19 points heading into the fourth.
A high scoring first quarter featured seven lead changes as the New Orleans Privateers shot 50 percent through the first 10 minutes of play. Stephen F. Austin countered with a 7-0 advantage in points at the free throw line. By the time it turned to the second quarter, the Lady Jacks held a 22-20 lead.
The scoring pace slowed in the second as both teams combined to go 10-for-36 from the field. Stephen F. Austin built a lead as large as six points on a Key Roseby three-pointer with 3:22 left in the half. The Privateers got the SFA lead back down to two on a pair of layups by
Shanihya Brown inside the final minute.
Stephen F. Austin finished the half with a layup by Roseby to take a 36-30 advantage into the locker room.
On the day, Stephen F. Austin had 21 assists to 13 turnovers. Roseby led the way in scoring with 21 points as five SFA players finished in double figures. Harmanie Dominguez had 18 points and six assists.
INSIDE THE BOX
Brown led the team in points with 14 and added three assists.
Jayla Kimbrough finished with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Trinity Bane had six points and set a new career-high with four blocks.
Hailee Brennen also scored nine points.
NEXT UP
The Privateers will travel to Thibodaux to face Nicholls on Thursday, Jan. 22.
