HOUSTON, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers had three players score in double figures but it wasn't enough as they lost 68-57 to the HCU Huskies on Saturday afternoon at Sharp Gym.
The game was tight throughout the first half as the largest lead was seven points, which was obtained by the Huskies late in the second quarter.
Shanihya Brown then made a step back jumper and the Privateers forced a turnover to end the first half. HCU went into the locker room leading 31-26.
New Orleans kept it close throughout the third quarter as they narrowly outscored the Huskies 17-16 in the stanza.
Jayla Kimbrough and
Lauren Banks combined for 11 of those points and the Privateers went to the fourth only trailing by four.
The Huskies were able to steadily extend the lead in the final frame though behind a defense that allowed just four made field goals over the final 10 minutes. HCU also had 10 made free throws in the quarter and had a lead of 14 points inside the final two minutes.
Madison Hurta scored 17 points to lead the Huskies. Grace Booth finished with 12 points and six rebounds. HCU also had 21 fast break points on the day.
The Privateers and Huskies forced an equal amount of turnovers (22 each). HCU led 20-17 in points off turnovers.
INSIDE THE BOX
Brialle Washington finished with a team-high 14 points. Banks and Kimbrough each had 10 points. Kimbrough also led the team in rebounds with eight.
Mariah Hart finished with seven points and five assists. Brown had six points and four assists.

The Privateers will travel to Stephen F. Austin on Thursday, Feb. 19.
