NEW ORLEANS –
Riley Marcotte and
Luke Lycette combined for eight strong innings on the mound and the New Orleans Privateers scored six runs in the seventh inning to pull away to a 10-3 win over the Northern Kentucky Norse on Saturday.
Marcotte was first up out of the pen after
Matthew Bienvenu had to leave the game in the first inning. The southpaw got around a leadoff walk in the second inning and held the Norse in check through the next four innings with only one unearned run allowed in that span.
The Privateers in that span, took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning when
Eli Tidwell hit a solo homer. An inning later, New Orleans added two more on an RBI double by
Dylan Biddick and an RBI single from
Adrian Dominguez.
Northern Kentucky closed the gap in the sixth on a pair of two-out singles from Ethan Thomas and Zach Pomatto, but
Luke Lycette came in next and shut down the Norse bats for the remainder of the game. Lycette picked up his first save of the year after shutting the door with 3.2 scoreless frames and only two hits allowed. Lycette struck out three batters including Sam Bond to end it.
On offense, the Privateers pulled away thanks to two home runs in the inning.
Evan Rogers drove one to deep right center with one out that extended the lead to two. Four batters later,
Collin Loupe singled through the right side to deliver two more runs.
The final blow in the inning came from
Kruise Newman who got a 3-1 pitch up in the zone and drilled it to deep right field for a three-run homer, his second of the year that helped decide the game.
Northern Kentucky was limited to just four hits on the night. Pierce Bauerle, Ethan Thomas and Zach Pomatto all had RBI singles.
