Women's Basketball Falls to Lamar to End Road Trip

BEAUMONT, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team were within six points at halftime, but the Lamar Cardinals used a big third quarter to pull away to an 84-54 win on Saturday at Neches Arena at the Montagne Center.

The Privateers made eight of their 13 field goals in the second quarter and were trading buckets with the Cardinals in that stanza. Lamar led 16-11 after one, but the Privateers pushed the home side and got within a point after a Hailee Brennen layup with 1:52 remaining.

Lamar used a 5-0 spurt to take a six-point lead into the half and they carried that momentum into a big third quarter that saw them outscore the Privateers 27-13. Mikayla Johnson started made a layup on the first possession, but the Cardinals responded by scoring 19 of the next 21 points to put the game out of reach.

The Cardinals had six players score in double figures as nobody put in more than 13 points on the day. Solenne Olenga and Alexis Parker each had double-doubles for the Cardinals. Jacei Denley had 11 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

For the Privateers, Jayla Owen became the 11th different player to score in double figures in a game this season.
