Privateers Pull Down 58 Rebounds in Loss to Southeastern

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers honored seven seniors on Thursday night but it was the Southeastern Lady Lions who used a big fourth quarter to take a 74-64 decision at Lakefront Arena.
 
The fourth quarter started with just a three-point lead for Southeastern, but the Lions outscored New Orleans 19-12 in the deciding quarter. Southeastern shot 46 percent in the final 10 minutes while the Privateers shot 20 percent from the field.
 
The Privateers got out to a 17-10 lead within the first seven minutes of the game thanks in part to three triples by three different players. The Lions were also hot from downtown as they made seven of their 15 attempts in the first half.
 
New Orleans dominated the glass in the first 20 minutes of play as they outrebounded Southeastern 30-14. They also had 14 offensive rebounds to the Lions' two. New Orleans also had 28 bench points in that stretch.
 
Southeastern wrestled the lead away in the final three minutes of the first half. A three-pointer by Aliyah Collins put the road team ahead 38-37 and they held the lead for the remainder of the half. The Lions went to the locker room up by three at 42-39 after shooting 50 percent from the field.
 
The Privateers had a massive rebounding edge as they outrebounded the Lions 58-32. They also had 27 offensive rebounds to Southeastern's six.
 
Four Lions scored in double figures led by Lihi Azouri who had 19 points. Aliyah Collins had 17 points and seven rebounds. Mia Ramos finished with 15 points.
 
INSIDE THE BOX
Lauren Banks finished with a double-double after scoring 20 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Sephora Kayolo had six points and 10 rebounds. Shanihya Brown had seven points, six rebounds and six assists. Brialle Washington finished with nine points and five rebounds.
 
NEXT UP
The Privateers will finish their home slate against McNeese on Saturday at 2 p.m.
