NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers got six runs off two homers in the first inning and the pitching staff shut the Tulane Green Wave out after the second inning of an 11-3 win on Tuesday night at Maestri Field.
The Green Wave scored a run in the top of the first off a two-out double by Jason Wachs, but it was quickly countered by an aggressive Privateer offense that attacked the fastball of starter, Jude Abbadessa.
Eli Tidwell hit a line drive single and
Owen Smith followed with a two-run blast to left field that gave the Privateers a 2-1 lead. Three walks were drawn and the Privateers got
Jake D'Altrui to the plate with the bases loaded. He proceeded to drill a grand slam for his first homer of the year that extended the New Orleans lead to 6-1.
Tulane got two runs back that closed the gap to 6-3, but that was as close as they got for the remainder of the night.
Bryson Goff pitched into the sixth inning and he shut the Green Wave out over the last 3.1 frames. Goff struck out four batters before giving way to a bullpen that carried the rest of the night.
Gus Rogers came in and got a strikeout before giving the ball to
Brycen Smith who finished the sixth and stranded a pair of Green Wave runners by inducing a pop up to second base.
In all, the bullpen between Rogers, Smith,
Lane Alack and
Karson Evans gave up just one hit over the final 4.1 innings.
The offense added three more runs in the eighth inning that included a two-run double from
Dylan Biddick who pushed his RBI total to 10 for the season.
Tulane had just five hits on the night and four were doubles. Wachs had three of the Green Wave's hits on the game.
INSIDE THE BOX
Tidwell and Smith combined for six of the Privateers' 12 hits, four runs and four RBI. In addition to his scoreless inning on the mound, Evans had a hit, a walk and two runs scored.
Evan Rogers finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.
